Stevedores- Hatchmen

Our Timaru branch is looking for skilled stevedores to work as Hatchmen who are responsible for the timely and efficient delivery of containers and steel cargo to and from vessels. As a Hatchman you will utilise your expert communication skills to be the eyes of a Mobile Harbour Crane operator to ensure cargo is safely and accurately loaded or discharged. Prior signalman or slewing crane operating experience desirable but not necessary as full training will be given to the right candidate.

On offer are guaranteed hours that revolve around vessel shipping schedules which are not always consistent, so flexibility with working hours is required. Career progression opportunities are available to learn about other aspects of the business.

To be successful you will need to meet the following requirements:

• Proven Hatchman experience 
• A minimum full Class 1 licence
• Be comfortable working at heights
• Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
• Can work flexible hours over a 7-day roster, including nights, weekends and public holidays
• A strong commitment to Health and Safety
• Be a strong team player
• Have a positive attitude and strong work ethic
