Port Career Opportunities
Looking for somewhere bigger and more interesting to work than an office cubicle? How does an office 216m long and 32m wide with the best view in town sound? As part of our stevedoring crew, you will be working on-board vessels preparing container cargo for discharge or voyage. On bulk cargo vessels, you will be discharging steel and oversized cargo with two cranes working in tandem. It’s all happening right here with you right in the middle of it.
You will be responsible for confirming container cargo is ready for discharge by removing all lashing gear and unlocking containers; preparing decks for loading and securing cargo to ensure it will safely reach its destination. Make no mistake, it is a skilled job requiring fitness, planning, meeting deadlines, attention to detail and a commitment to Health and Safety.
To ensure you succeed in this role, we will provide full on the job training, involving different methods of lashing, securing cargo, slinging and signaling. You will also learn stowage layouts in a 3D array to help you quickly find any container anywhere on the ship. If you decide you want to make a career of it, we will provide additional training to get you hatching, operating ships cranes or even becoming a foreman, if you have the right attitude and skills.
C3 offer you a competitive pay package with a guaranteed minimum of 8, 10 or 12 hours paid per shift. In turn, you will be offered alternating shifts within the shipping schedule, which may include working nights, weekends or bank holidays. Flexibility is a must and we will try to be flexible around your other commitments.
