On Vessel Digger Operator

Based in Port Chalmers we require skilled digger operators who also have flexibility to work at other C3 ports when required. 

This role primarily involves operating diggers in the hold on board log vessels to optimize the placement of logs in the hold. A forestry background with log grappling and log fleeting experience would be advantageous. However, we have great training available, so if you have general digger operating experience, such as roading work using a bucket and are a fast learner, apply now. We also encourage and offer multi skill training wherever possible, including ships cranes, front end loaders, material handlers, as well as a wide range of additional NZQA accredited training courses.

This is a busy and technical role, operating a grapple to organise the logs to maximise capacity. If you enjoy getting things ‘just right’ and get satisfaction from accurate and organised work, this could be just the role for you.

You must be flexible and prepared to work a range of 12-hour shifts as this is a 24/7 environment and subject to shipping schedules. On offer is a permanent position with a guaranteed minimum number of hours.

Essential requirements for this position are:

• Experience in operating diggers in a forestry environment or previous experience working with logs and a grapple or bucket
• A minimum  full Class 1 license with T endorsement preferred
• Good attention to detail
• A strong focus on Health and Safety 
• A dedicated team player
