About the Role

As our Heavy Diesel Mechanic, you'll be a key member of the Fleet Services team, responsible for ensuring maximum equipment reliability and availability across a large and varied fleet.

You'll work on Volvo and CAT Wheel Loaders, Volvo, CAT and Hyundai Excavators, Liebherr Log Loaders and Material Handlers, and Terminal Tractors, and other forestry and port support equipment.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose, repair and maintain heavy diesel machinery and equipment
• Perform advanced fault finding across mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems
• Complete preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing activities
• Conduct safety inspections and ensure compliance with company standards
• Support and mentor an apprentice mechanic
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and service documentation
• Liaise with operations teams to minimise downtime and maximise fleet availability
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the Fleet Services team

What We're Looking For

• Recognised qualification in Heavy Automotive Engineering (MITO or equivalent)
• Significant experience maintaining heavy diesel equipment
• Strong diagnostic and problem-solving capabilities
• Knowledge of hydraulic, electrical and mechanical systems
• Ability to mentor and support junior team members
• Proactive approach and commitment to quality workmanship
• Strong focus on health, safety and environmental responsibility
• Full New Zealand Driver Licence
• Class 2 License with W, T and R endorsements advantageous
