Duty Manager

A Duty Manager position has come available at Mount Maunganui, offering an excellent development opportunity for someone wanting a supervisory role. Reporting to the Mount Maunganui Manager, the role covers both Log Marshalling and Stevedoring Operations at the Mount.

We are seeking a people manager to lead, coordinate staff and resources to facilitate safe and efficient stevedoring, marshalling and wider port operations.

This position offers the scope to deliver further improvements to health and safety standards, customer service, labour & resource allocation, and operational efficiency.

The successful candidates will:

• Maintain a high focus on safety standards and building an improved safety culture
• Work collaboratively to achieve consistently good operational practices
• Ensure we continuously develop our people to be well trained and multi-skilled
• Build and maintain open communication channels with staff and ensure staff performance is well managed
• Supervise staff to ensure they comply with industry best practice and legislative requirements
• Build relationships with customers and ensure their KPI’s are meet and where possible exceeded 
• Ensure the right mix of labour and machinery is used to optimise efficiency
• Motivate staff to achieve and work towards company and personal goals

To truly succeed in this role, you will need to be highly resilient, have excellent stakeholder management skills and can initiate change to increase performance in a complex environment. As this is a 24/7 operation, flexible hours including night and weekend work will be required. Previous experience at a supervisory level in a port, forestry, logistics environment is preferred.
